Model Pelestarian Berbasis Masyarakat terhadap Rumah Adat Osing sebagai Living Heritage: Resistensi terhadap Paradoks Pariwisata Budaya

Abstrak

The increasing demand for authentic cultural tourism has created a paradox in which tourism development may threaten cultural authenticity while the absence of economic value may lead to the abandonment of cultural heritage. This study aims to analyze the Osing community model in maintaining traditional houses as living heritage as a form of resistance to the paradox of cultural tourism in Kemiren Village, Banyuwangi, Indonesia. The research employed a qualitative case study with an ethnographic approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, documentation, and field notes involving customary leaders, traditional house owners, tourism managers, community leaders, and visitors. Data analysis followed Spradley's ethnographic procedures, including domain, taxonomic, componential, and cultural theme analyses. The findings reveal that the sustainability of Osing traditional houses is supported by four interconnected elements: maintaining their residential function, preserving customary rituals, ensuring community-based management, and strengthening local economic benefits through tourism. These elements position traditional houses not merely as cultural artifacts but as living heritage embedded in everyday life. The study concludes that the Osing community has developed a community-based resistance model capable of maintaining cultural authenticity while ensuring economic sustainability, thereby addressing the paradox between cultural commodification and heritage abandonment in cultural tourism
